This moderately more challenging beginner excursion begins in Castle Rock Colorado and heads west heading over the front range. You will experience a fun mix of twisting, undulating, banked dirt roads. Steep and narrow with unexpected washouts. Heading south you will drive a tight shelf road while seeing several unique landscapes. You then head west, to a fun trail that starts climbing the north face of the San Isabel National Forest. The area is in recovery from a fire, and some wildflowers are beginning to grow back. You will camp at 10,000 feet. Day 2 Starts off with a steep decent into Villa Grove and then heads south to the Great Sand Dunes, where you will stop for the opportunity to take it all in. Continuing on, heading east through a dozen creek crossings, and up an over the mountain range towards a deep valley where you may see some amazing wildlife. The excursion continues on dirt for several more miles, then a quick road trip back to the town of Castle Rock.
This excursions totals 400 miles of which 100 are on dirt.
